With the US on lockdown businesses are laying people off and shutting down. The government is handing out money that we will have to payback at some point. Thats ok though; nothing in life is free! When i turn on the news all I see is info about the Coronavirus, the weather, and what other people are doing to stay sane and healthy. It makes me wonder what are they hiding from us. Now don’t get me wrong, I know the Coronavirus is serious. This is a crisis like the country has never seen. However there is a saying in politics. “Don’t let a good crisis go to waste.”
Our so called representatives are once again trying to infringe on our rights while we are distracted. This time in stead of a major disaster we are dealing with a world wide pandemic and an unprecedented shutdown of our nation. It is not only our elected representatives in the federal government, but also our local governments. In LA the County Sherif has declared that gun stores are not essential businesses and must be shut down. Now I do necessarily disagree with this, however given the current state of the country declaring all gun stores must shutdown was a really bad idea. While everyone is worried about getting sick, paying their bills or getting kids ready to start attending school online the last thing they need is to feel like their rights are being stripped. The Mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Illinois have done similar things by issuing orders allowing bans on gun sales.
AT the federal level bill H.R. 5717/s.3254 is being pushed. I have been paying attention to the news watching many different stations and have heard nothing about this bill. I found out about it from alerts I received from several organizations I am a member of. This bill is very comprehensive and overbearing. I am very angry that our representatives would try to do something like this to begin with let alone during a crisis like we are facing today. I am also outraged that the media is not even mentioning this bill. I am not going to go into the details here but for starters under this bill you will go to jail if you buy more than one gun a month, you will need to get a federal license to even buy a gun , and there will be a national gun registry.Let that sink in for a minute. This bill is a huge infringement of our Second Amendment Rights!
Now I ask you to write, and call your Congresspersons and Senators and tell them how you feel about this bill. I will also be writing complaint letters to the major media outlets about their lack of reports on this.
Leave your comments below. I would live to hear your thoughts on this.
